Got Well

One day a boy came to his teacher and said，“Teacher, my father wants to know if you like roast pig.”

“I certainly do”, said the teacher, “and you tell your father he is very kind to think of me.”

Days passed, and nothing more was said about the roast pig.

Finally the teacher said to the boy，“I thought your father was going to send me over some roast pig.”

“Yes,” said the boy, “he did intend to, but the pig got well.”

又沒(méi)病了

一天有個(gè)男孩去對(duì)他老師說(shuō)：“老師，我爸想知道你是不是愛(ài)吃烤豬肉。”

“當(dāng)然啰，”老師說(shuō)，“去告訴你父親，多謝他想著我。”

好幾天過(guò)去了，再?zèng)]提起烤豬肉的事兒。

最后老師對(duì)男孩說(shuō)：“我以為你父親要給我送點(diǎn)烤豬肉來(lái)呢。”

“是啊，”孩子說(shuō)，“他是這么想的，可后來(lái)豬又沒(méi)病了。”

詞匯講解】

1.roast烤制的。roast還可以作動(dòng)詞，有“烤”的意思：The sun was roasting us.太陽(yáng)火辣辣地炙烤著我們。還可以指“嘲諷”：They roasted his new book.他們狠狠地挖苦他的新書(shū)。

2.think of想起。Will you think of me after I’ve left?我離開(kāi)之后，你還會(huì)記得我嗎?還可以指“對(duì)…有看法”：They all thought of her as a nice girl.他們都認(rèn)為她是個(gè)好女孩。Dick thinks of himself as a genius in literature.迪克自以為是個(gè)文學(xué)天才。還有“考慮”的意思：He’s thinking of studying abroad.他在考慮出國(guó)學(xué)習(xí)。

3.“nothing more was said about the roast pig”烤豬肉的事情沒(méi)有再被提起，也就是說(shuō)那個(gè)男孩再?zèng)]跟老師說(shuō)起有關(guān)烤肉的事情。

4.send over發(fā)送，派遣. They sent him over to the police. 他們將他遣送警察局。 We'll send the new books over to you next week. 我們下個(gè)星期會(huì)把新書(shū)給你送去的。

5.intend打算。I intended the gift for you.我打算把這禮物送給你。還有“想讓…做”的意思：She intended that her daughter should study English.她想讓她女兒學(xué)英語(yǔ)。

6.“ but the pig got well”但是豬又好了，根據(jù)上文可以推斷，這里的意思是：豬原來(lái)病了，男孩的父親想反正豬也賣(mài)不了了，干脆利用起來(lái)給老師送點(diǎn)禮物;結(jié)果后來(lái)豬病好了，他又舍不得送了。
