澳大利亞總理強(qiáng)硬表態(tài)支持美國(guó)

Australia has said it would invoke its long standing military alliance with America in the event the North Korean regime attacks the US.

澳大利亞表示如果朝鮮政權(quán)襲擊美國(guó)，它將援引與美國(guó)的長(zhǎng)期軍事聯(lián)盟。

Malcolm Turnbull, Australia’s prime minister, issued the pledge on Friday following overnight talks with US vice-president Mike Pence about escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula.

周五，澳大利亞總理馬爾科姆•特恩布爾(Malcolm Turnbull)在前一夜與美國(guó)副總統(tǒng)邁克•彭斯(Mike Pence)進(jìn)行會(huì)談后，就朝鮮半島緊張局勢(shì)升級(jí)發(fā)表了上述承諾。

“America stands by its allies, including Australia of course, and we stand by the US,” Mr Turnbull told Australian radio.

特恩布爾向澳大利亞電臺(tái)表示：“美國(guó)支持其盟國(guó)——澳大利亞當(dāng)然包括在內(nèi)，我們也支持美國(guó)。”

“So be very, very clear on that. If there’s an attack on the US, the Anzus Treaty would be invoked and Australia would come to the aid of the US, as America would come to our aid if we were attacked.”

Mr Turnbull’s comments are much tougher than those made by Julie Bishop, Australia’s foreign minister, who on Thursday said Australia would not automatically be involved were there to be a “catastrophic” conflict on the Korean peninsula.

特恩布爾這番話比澳大利亞外長(zhǎng)朱莉•畢曉普(Julie Bishop)的言論要強(qiáng)硬得多。畢曉普在周四表示如果朝鮮半島發(fā)生“災(zāi)難性”沖突，澳大利亞不會(huì)“自動(dòng)”參與。

“In fact we were not a party, in the legal sense, to the [Korean War] armistice so there is no automatic trigger for Australia to be involved,” Ms Bishop told Australia’s state broadcaster.

畢曉普向澳大利亞國(guó)家電視臺(tái)表示：“事實(shí)上，從法律意義上，我們?cè)?朝鮮戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng))停戰(zhàn)協(xié)議上不是一派，所以澳大利亞不會(huì)被自動(dòng)觸發(fā)參與其中。”

“As far as the Anzus alliance is concerned, that is an obligation to consult. But of course we’ve been in constant discussion with the US.”

Australia’s military and strategic alliance with the US dates to 1951 when both countries signed the Anzus treaty, along with New Zealand.

Although New Zealand later abrogated the pact, the mutual defence provisions are binding between the US and Australia and it remains the bedrock of Canberra’s foreign policy.

Australian troops have fought alongside US forces in every major military conflict since the first world war.
