Hard blows the frosty breeze;
In frozen quilt I hear
聽(tīng)孤雁,
Sad cackles of wild geese,
Cry on cry bringing grief on grief far and near.
The clouds are pale; the azure sky like water clear.
I don my robe and tell the geese,
“Stop for a while and listen please!
In little town south of the tower,
Beyond the third bridge, by the western riverside,
There stands a crimson-painted bower,
With pillar-like plane trees outside.
Please do not cry.
When you pass by,
Or my dear sleepless wife would sigh!”
