“代溝”，指年輕一代與老一代由于經(jīng)驗、觀點、習慣和行為等的不同而存在心理距離或心理隔閡(a situation in which older and younger people do not understand each other because of their different experiences, opinions, habits, and behavior)。

實際上，“代溝”一詞是由英文“the generation gap”直譯而來，這個概念是美國人類學家M.米德提出的。由于譯法貼切而新穎，加上易于記憶，所以馬上成了漢語常用語。
