For who could tell but what the next morning, sosoon as I popped out of the room, the harpooneermight be standing in the entry, all ready to knockme down!

因?yàn)槟膫€(gè)敢保到了明天早晨,我一走出房間,那個(gè)標(biāo)槍手不會(huì)站在門(mén)口,一拳把我敲倒呢!

Still looking around me again, and seeing no possiblechance of spending a sufferable night unless in someother person's bed,

我又四下一望,看到要度過(guò)這個(gè)苦惱的夜晚,除了睡別人的床而外,別無(wú)它法可想,

I began to think that after all I might be cherishing unwarrantable prejudices against thisunknown harpooneer.

我心里開(kāi)始想:我對(duì)這個(gè)陌生的標(biāo)槍手所抱的種種偏見(jiàn)也許到頭來(lái)是毫無(wú)根據(jù)的。

Thinks I, I'll wait awhile; he must be dropping in before long.

我想:還是再等一等吧;他總該快回來(lái)了。

I'll have a good look at him then, and perhaps we may become jolly good bedfellows after all--there's no telling.

那時(shí)候,讓我對(duì)他好好端相一番,說(shuō)不定結(jié)果我們還會(huì)成為一對(duì)極其相得的睡伴呢...誰(shuí)說(shuō)得準(zhǔn)。

But though the other boarders kept coming in by ones, twos, and threes, and going to bed, yetno sign of my harpooneer.

但是,雖然其他的住客已經(jīng)一個(gè),兩個(gè),三個(gè)不斷的走進(jìn)來(lái).睡覺(jué)去了,我那個(gè)標(biāo)槍手卻仍然不見(jiàn)蹤影。

Landlord! said I, what sort of a chap is he--does he always keep such late hours? It was nowhard upon twelve o'clock.

老板!我說(shuō),他是怎樣一個(gè)家伙...他老是這樣晚回來(lái)的嗎?這時(shí)已經(jīng)快十二點(diǎn)了。

The landlord chuckled again with his lean chuckle, and seemed to be mightily tickled atsomething beyond my comprehension.

店老板又用他那乏味的笑聲吃吃地笑起來(lái),而且覺(jué)得非常好笑似的,弄得我摸不著頭腦。
