Today, only the hardest outcrops are left behind.

今天只剩下了最堅硬的巖層

They're called sea stacks.

But even they will eventually be ground away.

The oceans influence our planet

in many far more subtle and profound ways.

They drive the climate.

They harbour creatures that deliver oxygen to our atmosphere.

And below the oceans surface is an extraordinary network of currents

that are critical to the wellbeing of all life on Earth.

這對地球上所有的生命良性發(fā)展起到關鍵作用

But four and a half billion years ago, when our planet was born,

但是450億年前，地球剛剛誕生

it was just a molten inferno.

它不過是一個融化的地獄

There was no place for any liquid water at all.

根本沒有液體存在的可能

Yet the ingredients needed to create water were there,

但是倉創(chuàng)造水的成分都存在

locked away deep inside the Earth when the planet formed.

在地球形成的時候被緊緊壓在了地球里面

As the first volcanoes erupted,

第一次火山爆發(fā)的時候

one of the gases that billowed out was steam.

第一股爆發(fā)出來的氣流中就有蒸汽

And as the planet cooled, it formed clouds.

等到星球冷卻下來就形成了云
