One of the key words for Beijing's bid is frugality, and according to officials from the Committee, the total operational budget for the city's potential 2022 Winter Games amounts to 1.56 billion US dollars, and within this projection, only six percent would come from government subsidies.
According to Zhou Xing, the Vice Director of the Finance and Marketing Department of Beijing's Bid Committee, 338 million US dollars will come from IOC transfers or subsidies. Official sponsors will provide another 157 million. Ticket sales are expected to hit 108 million dollars, with certified goods bringing in about 80 million in revenue, while government support would be limited to about 96 million.
In order to encourage more young people to watch the Games, ticket prices are also expected to be more affordable, as viewers would be able to catch many of the events for as low as 8 dollars a pop, but getting into the most popular competitions is projected to set spectators back by an average of about 100 dollars per session.
And ticket prices for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies would range from 118 to 787 dollars.
